Getting in

Who can enter Türkiye and on what terms — visa-free windows and entry visas.

Visa-free / e-Visa short stay (90/180)

activeVisa-free stay

For: EU citizens, UK citizens, Ukrainian citizens, US citizens

Duration
3 months
Path to PR
No
Requirements (4)
  • EU/EEA, UK and Ukrainian nationals may enter Türkiye visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period
  • US citizens enter visa-free or via a quick online e-Visa (~$50), also up to 90 days
  • Valid passport (6+ months); tourism, business or family visit — local employment needs a work permit
  • Türkiye is outside Schengen, so time here does not count toward the Schengen allowance

Tax implications: Short stays generally do not create Turkish tax residency; remote work for foreign clients during a short stay is a legal grey zone.

Easy entry for our audience: EU/UK/Ukraine visa-free, US via visa-free or a cheap e-Visa, all 90/180. A convenient base that doesn't burn Schengen days; for longer stays use the digital-nomad visa or a short-term residence permit.

Staying long-term

Grounds for residence — business, employment, special programs — with the conditions to qualify.

Requirements (4)
  • Remote workers aged 21–55 holding a university degree, earning ≥ $3,000/month from foreign employers/clients
  • Obtain the Digital Nomad Identification Certificate on the official GoTürkiye platform, then apply for the visa at a Turkish consulate
  • Enter Türkiye, then apply for a short-term residence permit (ikamet) to stay long-term
  • Open to a broad list of nationalities (EU/EEA, UK, US, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and others)

Tax implications: Residing over 183 days generally creates Turkish tax residency; an IT freelancer invoicing foreign clients benefits from the 100% service-export income deduction (0% income tax on that income) — a very low effective burden.related scheme →

Türkiye launched a dedicated digital-nomad route on the government GoTürkiye platform: a Digital Nomad Identification Certificate → visa → short-term residence permit, for degree-holding remote workers aged 21–55 earning ≥ $3,000/month from abroad. Paired with the 100% service-export tax deduction and lira-cheap costs, it is a strong remote-work base. The residence permit renews annually toward longer-term status.

Requirements (4)
  • Foreign nationals wishing to stay in Türkiye beyond the visa-free/e-visa window (over 90 days) for tourism, remote work, property ownership or family reasons
  • Apply for a short-term residence permit (kısa dönem ikamet) before the visa-free period expires; valid up to 1–2 years and renewable
  • Proof of accommodation, health insurance and sufficient means; modest fees (a document fee plus a small per-month charge)
  • Long-term residence is possible after 8 years of continuous legal residence

Tax implications: The residence status itself is tax-neutral; income is taxed by its source and Turkish tax residency (183-day rule). IT service-exports qualify for the 100% deduction.related scheme →related scheme →

The general, widely-used route for expats and nomads who don't take the dedicated digital-nomad visa: a renewable short-term residence permit (ikamet). Inexpensive and flexible, though in recent years some districts have been closed to new tourism-based permits and property/rental documentation is scrutinised more closely — check current district availability.
