Living in Gdańsk.
Poland's largest Baltic port and the anchor of the Tricity conurbation with Sopot and Gdynia. The air is the cleanest of Poland's big cities and the sea moderates both winter and summer, but the coast is also the country's second most expensive rental market after Warsaw, and short-term holiday letting pushes asking rents up every summer.

- Mean of the 1991–2020 monthly values published by IMGW-PIB, Poland's national meteorological service, for the Gdańsk-Rębiechowo climatological station: mean daily maximum, mean daily minimum and monthly precipitation total from the "klimat" monthly archive (k_m_d files). The station appears under two register codes — 254180090 (1991–1993, 2000–2020) and 354180150 (1993–1999) — which together give 30 of 30 years in every month; the nine overlapping months of 1993 carry identical values under both codes, which is what identifies them as one station. Annual precipitation 620.2mm. Gdańsk is absent from the WMO 1991–2020 normals archive used for the other Polish cities, so the normals are computed here; the same computation applied to Wrocław-Strachowice reproduces that station's published WMO normals exactly, all 36 values.

The row aggregates a station centroid of 54.3932°N 18.6305°E, 5.5km from the city centre, over a footprint of 466,631 people against the 489,328 municipal population. 2024 is the reference year used for every city in this dataset taken from the same file.
- Notes
- Two and a half times the WHO 2021 guideline (5 µg/m³), inside both the current EU limit (25) and the 2030 EU limit (10) — the only Polish city in this dataset below the 2030 figure. The Baltic position helps: onshore winds ventilate the city and there is less coal heating than inland. The series is broadly flat since 2020 (12.5 in 2020, 13.8 in 2022, 11.1 in 2023) rather than trending.

02International delivery easecountry-levelMinor friction7.0
What this measures
Ease of receiving goods from abroad. seamless = major international carriers deliver door-to-door, meaningful duty-free de-minimis threshold, customs clearance predictable in days; minor-friction = carriers present but low de-minimis, extra paperwork or routine delays; significant-friction = frequent customs holds, high brokerage fees, some marketplaces refuse to ship; unreliable = parcels regularly lost or blocked, informal import channels dominate. - Comprehensive private plans that include inpatient/hospital cover — top-tier LuxMed/Medicover subscriptions (own or partner hospitals) and standalone health insurance (Signal Iduna, Allianz Zdrowie, PZU) — run ≈400–700 PLN/month. Healthy-35-year-old midpoint ≈ 500 PLN/mo ≈ 6,000 PLN/yr ≈ $1,595 at 3.7635 PLN/USD (range ≈ $1,275–$2,230). Premiums are quoted on request, so this is a curated market midpoint, not a public engine quote.
- Notes
- Residents are covered by mandatory public insurance (NFZ); private cover is optional. Most people buy only a cheaper OUTPATIENT subscription (LuxMed/Medicover ≈150–250 PLN/mo ≈ $600/yr) and use the public system for hospital care. This figure is the with-inpatient comprehensive tier, chosen to be comparable with other countries' comprehensive plans (the earlier $603 was an outpatient-only subscription mislabelled as comprehensive).

Not counted. ibo.org — the registry the Kraków and Warsaw counts are built on — returns HTTP 403 to automated requests, no Internet Archive snapshot of its Poland query exists, and the Polish national school register (RSPO) has no "international school" category among its 107 institution types, so it cannot substitute. Counting schools on their own websites' claims was rejected here for the same reason it was rejected for Málaga.

Openness to foreignerscountry-levelModerateGallup MAI 4.21/9 · 2019
What this measures
How accepting the resident population is of migrants and foreigners — the inverse of xenophobia, a real concern for someone relocating. Our own five-band reading (very-open / open / moderate / reserved / low) informed primarily by the Gallup Migrant Acceptance Index (0–9 scale: three questions on migrants living in the country, becoming neighbours, and marrying into the family; 2019 wave), cross-checked where available with the World Values Survey wave 7 / European Values Study 2017 question on whether people would not want immigrants or foreign workers as neighbours (a higher share = more hostile). Banding guide against the Gallup 0–9 score: ≥7.0 very-open, 5.5–7.0 open, 4.0–5.5 moderate, 2.5–4.0 reserved, below 2.5 low (the 2019 global average of 5.21 sits in 'moderate'). Country level only: no credible city-level survey of attitudes to foreigners exists, so on city pages the country reading is shown as country context. Gallup is a research source cited with attribution, not republished in bulk; the raw index score/year and any cross-check figure are carried inside each value. Value shape: { band, gallupMai?, gallupYear?, unwantedNeighborPct?, unwantedNeighborSource? }. Display-only: attitudinal, survey-based and ~2019 vintage, so it is shown as honest context and never folded into the composite score.

- Row "Gdansk/POL", year 2024, pm25_concentration 12.683 µg/m³ at 99% temporal coverage, from three stations, all urban background — the cleanest station mix of any Polish city in this file.

- Method
- Intended method, unchanged from Kraków and Warsaw: count the IB World Schools the official finder returns for country=PL whose address falls inside this city. It could not be executed — see notes.
- Notes
- Not counted. ibo.org — the registry the Kraków and Warsaw counts are built on — returns HTTP 403 to automated requests, no Internet Archive snapshot of its Poland query exists, and the Polish national school register (RSPO) has no "international school" category among its 107 institution types, so it cannot substitute. Counting schools on their own websites' claims was rejected here for the same reason it was rejected for Málaga.

- Holding/trading legal for individuals; 19% flat tax on disposal gains (crypto-to-crypto swaps untaxed). EU MiCA applies; Poland's domestic implementing act was vetoed (latest 2026-06-11), so local CASP licensing is stalled — EU-passported providers serve the market.
